Keeper’s Log, December 29

LaPointe Light Station, December 29 1877

Snowy and a gale from the N.E. Mercury 8 A.M. 34 above zero 12 M 36. Northern Belle came in from down the lake. Tug Amethyst went out down the lake.

Oh yeah, they’re still out there some years this time. If ships are sailing, the lights are burning.

Northern Belle and Amethyst seem like appropriate names for boats in the north and in the winter.
