FBI investigates shooting of park ranger

KOB.com, Dec. 3, 2007:

ABIQUIU, N.M. (AP) – The FBI has released the name of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger who was shot over the weekend.

Special Agent Bill Elwell says 51-year-old Alfred Chavez was assaulted Saturday while he was on duty at Abiquiu Lake.

Authorities say Chavez had noticed a pump house had been broken into so he went to check it out. He found two men inside. One of them fired two shots.

Chavez was hit in the leg, but he’s recovering.

Authorities are looking for two men who were seen leaving the area in a white, late model two-door pickup with tinted windows, chrome rims and damage on the rear passenger side.
